Over all, recent statistics show that airline sites throughout the UK have seen a large drop in passengers which has reached nearly 32% drop on last year as the economic crises continues. The recent market figures were published by the market research company Com Score.

British Airways have felt the impact in the decrease of passengers the most with a 54% drop in their unique visitors in the UK during October 2007 - October 2008. This drop in figures as meant that BA is now 3rd as the most visited airline website which is now behind easyJet and Ryanair.

Digital Marketing Manager at British Airways, Chris Davies claimed that most people were now more likely to shop around to look for the cheapest flights. He said:

“People are still looking to travel but there’s greater competition,”

A Com Score analyst claimed that most airlines had been witness to a huge drop in passengers over the last 12 months and the current financial climate has had a huge impact on web traffic.

They said:

“The crunch is having a clear effect on retail, and travel is the first to hit because it’s not always an essential…People aren’t looking for weekends away as much as they would have done a year ago.”

CEO at Cheapflights, Chris Cuddy was quoted as saying “we may not see the rise we had a year ago, but people do still want to travel and are looking for a good deal”.
