BA Cuts Short Haul Routes

Oh no!  British Airways intends to cut its short haul routes by around 5 per cent because of increases in the cost of fuel.  This is a disaster for us Europeans with so many great cities for city breaks close by - they’re all short haul.

We won’t find out the full impact until the new winter schedule is announced on the 1st August.  BA’s chairman did say the other week that BA would be lucky to breakeven this year with the impact of the cost of fuel - that’s difficult for many of us to believe I know, but it would seem true.

However, this change is not as severe as rival airlines in America who are laying off workers and parking planes.  Even Ryanair is cutting its services by 14 per cent, so maybe these changes aren’t as dramatic as we may at first think, but it just goes to show you - get your cheap city breaks and holidays whilst you can, because if prices keep increasing as they have been, none of us will be able to afford them!
