Barcelona City Events
Most of my friends have visited Barcelona at one time or another and it’s a place I have yet to visit, so I thought I’d have a look around and see what’s the best time to go. Here is a list of their favourite major events, so you can plan your city break around them if you wish to attend (or avoid) any of them!
Classical Music
For classical music lovers, January to May time is the best time to visit so call ahead to find out which concerts are on. They have the best concerts from performers such as the Berlin Symphony, London Philharmonic or the Vienna Boys Choir.
Opera
Opera is a big attraction in Barcelona and all the great operas are featured from February to June time
Festa Major
This is Barcelona’s greatest street festival, usually staged in mid-August, one of the hottest times of year to visit. Each year, different districts of Barcelona compete to host the festival so each year is completely different
La Merce
La Merce is in late September and celebrates Our Lady of Mercy in a week-long festival of dance, pageantry and music. The end is announced in a fantastic display of colourful fireworks - well worth a visit on their own.
It takes a mere two hours flight to get to Barcelona, so why I haven’t been yet is beyond me. I feel a visit coming on for August…
