Barcelona turns into ‘an international film set’
The city of Barcelona could now be considered as an ‘international film set’ due to its huge appeal to the international producers and well known-movie directors according to the mayor of the city.
Jordi Hereu just recently commented on the cinematic appeal of Barcelona, after the 2009 Academy Awards ceremony, which saw Penelope Cruz take away the award for best supporting actress which saw an honour for her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona a Woody Allen film.
Mr Hereu presented and congratulated the award to the actress saying that the success of the film further endorsed Barcelona as the capital of culture and creativity.
Barcelona has so far been used as the film location for 55 movies, mini-series and TV dramas during 2008 along with 425 documentaries claim their city council.
The film Vicky Cristina Barcelona was shot in various locations around the Catalan city which included famous places such as; Parc Guell, Rambla, Tibidabo and the Museu Picasso along with the Sagrada Familia.
Woody Allen has quite often shown his love for particular European cities in his films with Annie Hall, Manhattan and other films that were based in New York, the more recent being Match Point set in London.
