Beaches Fight Over Tourists
Ok, now I don’t normally stray too far from my one true love and the world of city breaks, but I loved this story so felt I should share.
Two beaches in America - Virginia Beach and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina - are fighting over tourists. Tourism official from Virginia Beach have accused their Myrtle Beach counterparts of poor advertising standards, saying that they are actively trying to discourage tourists from visiting their rivals.
Apparently, the argument started over Myrtle Beach’s advertisement telling Google users that they were the better option when compared to Virginia Beach. This is breaking the rule about not directly attacking other tourist areas.
Virginia Beach has complained and wants the advert removed. Myrtle Beach would not comment.
This is why I love city breaks - one beach is pretty much the same as another, sand, sea and hopefully a bit of sun. Cities are very different. Give me a city any time - but I’ll still amuse myself with these stories.
