Cape Town - the place to be
Cape Town is a major city in South Africa and is set to host the World Cup in 2010. It will host eight of the World Cup matches, including a semi-final. It is a beautiful city and not your normal option for a ’standard’ city break weekend, but definitely one worth doing.
The marketing organisation that represents Cape Town and the Western Cape has said that they aim for Cape Town to be the ‘place to be’ in 2010. They commissioned research from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, who recommended the destination should target all sorts of travellers rather than just focusing on the football visitors.
Cape Town expects to get around 700,000 visitors in July 2010 for the World Cup.
Personally, I would love to visit Cape Town for a city break, maybe for a week - but I think the World Cup would be too busy for me. Ideally, I think I’d like to go earlier in 2010, but we’ll see.
