The UK airline BA or British Airways have just made an announcement at its intent to deduct its total net emissions of CO2 by 50% come the year 2050.

This will be a radical change in the airline’s new objective and is likely to be the most ambitious claim that has ever been announced by any airline ever.

If British Airways manage to achieve its objective the decrease of net output of the airline’s carbon emissions will be down from 16 million tonnes to 8 million tonnes.

The pledge was announced in Hyderabad which is also where BA has added a new flight route which connects London Heathrow, the BA CEO, Willie Walsh, claims

“Environmental issues cannot be put to one side even if we are enduring a difficult economic climate at the moment.” He added: ‘We will make progress through investment in cleaner aircraft, use of alternative fuels, more efficient flight routings and the spread of emissions trading from Europe to the whole world. We have taken climate change issues very seriously for a long time. More than a decade ago, we became the first airline to publish fuel efficiency targets – and we have achieved an improvement since then of almost 30%.’
