Manchester Casino A Great Success

Wednesday, den 20. August 2008

It seems I have a great city break practically on my doorstep, only one hour away in fact.  Manchester’s main casino Manchester235 has been described as a ‘great success’ and had a ‘flood of new members’ according to the casino’s marketing manager Siobhan McGoff.
Siobhan McGoff said: “It’s more than just a casino: we have two […]

Overall, Sainsburys Travel estimates that prices have increased by an average […]

What bugs you on your holiday?

Monday, den 18. August 2008

Things that bug me on holiday vary depending on whether I’m on a beach holiday or a city break, but I have to admit to being surprised by the results of the Post Office Travel Services latest survey.
The top bug bears according to their survey are rip-offs like being pressured to tip, feeling that tourists […]

Birminghan Airport Has Busiest July on record

Sunday, den 17. August 2008

Last month, Birmingham Airport has announced it had its busiest month on record ever as it handled more than £1.03 million passengers - not bad for a regional UK airport.
Around 700,000 were for scheduled flights and 300,000 for chartered.  It also means that their year to date figures have increased by 4.5 per cent too.
Personally, […]

What would be your top tourist destination?

Saturday, den 16. August 2008

With all holidays, but with city breaks in particular, it is always great to plan out a top tourist destination or hot spot for where you would like to visit.
For example, who would go to New York without going to see the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty?  Exactly.
Now Halifax has done a […]

Worlds Most Expensive Holiday Ever

Thursday, den 14. August 2008

Wow.  This is so not a city break but I had to write about it.  The Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi is offering what is probably the world’s most expensive holiday package, valued at $1 million (£512,147)!!
Here’s what you get: (still doesn’t seem enough to me)

two guests get a week all-inclusive in the palace […]

Exchange Rates Awful

Wednesday, den 13. August 2008

I’m gutted.  Today, I’m going to get some Euros ready for my Dublin city break this weekend (I fly out on Friday) and I’ve only just checked the exchange rate.  When I last bought Euros, it was nowhere near this bad.  The current exchange rate from pounds to euro is only 1.219 - admittedly, my […]

Classical Music - Krakow

Tuesday, den 12. August 2008

Poland, as regular readers of my city break blog will know, is one of my and one of the UK’s favourite city break destinations at the moment.  It’s a relatively cheap European break, even with the strong euro at the moment and many holidaymakers might like to time their visit with this classical music festival […]

City Breaks for Investment Purposes

Monday, den 11. August 2008

Have you ever loved a city so much that you’ve considered buying an investment property there?  Personally I haven’t, but a friend of mine recently came back from Bulgaria, raving about the country and declaring he was going to buy a property out there.  He hadn’t actually looked at any properties whilst out there, but […]

Dubai Hosts Desert Rhythm Festival

Monday, den 11. August 2008

I’ve talked quite a lot about Dubai this year, because they’ve had a lot of development announcements and exciting plans for the next couple of years.  It’s a city break I definitely intend to go on next year or in 2010.
I never thought I’d want to go to a music festival there but it’s certainly […]
