ABTA (Association of British Travel Agents) released figures earlier this month showing that Edinburgh is the second most popular destination in the UK after London.

London has always been the most dominant destination in the UK.  However, Edinburgh also beat other cities in the UK such as Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow.

For the Brits, London was also the most popular city break destination, closely followed by Blackpool and then Edinburgh.  Chief Executive of VisitBritain, Tony Wright, stated that city breaks are increasingly popular but basic aspects such as flight availability still controlled the market.

I love London myself, and have indeed visited both Blackpool and Edinburgh, however, I think I would visit Edinburgh more if it were closer.  For myself, that has nothing to do with flight prices, and more to do with train prices.  Basic aspects indeed.  WIth ever-increasing fuel prices, my number of breaks per year has drastically reduced.
