The European Cruise Council (ECC) has announced that they have seen a record year within the cruise sector for the majority of 2008.

The cruise liner has seen some 4.4 million people embarking on European cruise vacations in Europe during 2008 which is an increase of another 10% from the previous statistics that we taken by the cruise liner in 2007.

The European Cruise Council also declared statistics at the recent Seatrade convention within Miami, show that there are nearly 1.5 million cruise passengers who came from the UK last year and a further 907,000 that came from Germany.

The Mediterranean and Atlantic islands were the places that continued to lead the way in the most popular itineraries within the cruise market with 2.6 million people representing a 60% market share.

ECC chairman, David Dingle, said:

‘The European cruise industry has seen an impressive 66% growth in the number of cruise passengers in the last five years. This is a tremendous result and suggests cruising is in a strong position to face today’s challenging economic climate.’

Another news bulletin is that the Passenger Shipping Association has announced the new launch of Discover Cruises their website offering a huge variety of advice and information for holiday makers planning to take a cruise.
