Eurostar European City Breaks Got Better

After the fire which interrupted the Eurostar services earlier this month, it was good news to hear Eurostar announce last week that they have opened a new 17 km stretch of tunnel at the north end.

This means that their service has effectively doubled.  There has been a 50 per cent increase in service frequency and another 7 km stretch of tunnel is planned to improve things even more - this should be open any day now.

The number of trains running through the tunnel each day is now almost 17 0 per day.

For those looking for cheap city breaks in places such as Paris, Lille, Brussels or Bruges, Eurostar has been an absolute blessing.  I think it’s been better for those in the south of course, but that’s just because I’ve never actually used it.  I have nothing against the concept, I drive through the Liverpool tunnel all the time, but there are plenty of cheap flights from airports near me so I don’t need to spend the fuel and time driving down there.
