Probably one of the more unusual festivals that will be held this year is in Calais within the area known as Nord Pas de Calais in France is where the Scarecrow Event is held. The event has just given the title of France’s key ‘mini-adventures’ that travellers are recommended to experience this year.

Every year, come April the little country village of Moringhem is invaded with thousands of scarecrows that loiter in the alleyways and streets or hidden in darker corners of the town.

This year the fun event takes place from 17th – 19th April, during your visit you would find out more regarding the meaning of the festival and the history of the village.

It was The Sunday Times who recently named this event in their recommended list of the best ‘mini adventures’ during 2009. Moroccan city will be host to the World Touring Car Championship in a few months and the speed circuit has been overhauled to produce a brand new circuit for the race.

Some holiday makers could find some interest in Lisbon, from 12th -  14th June when the Festival of St Anthony takes place and means a time of celebration, dancing, parades and celebrating in the street.
