Florence - the heart of Italy
Florence is located in Tuscany, north Italy and like Venice, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Like many cities of Italy, it has both a historical and cultural feel to it and is full of galleries and churches.
At the heart of Florence is the cathedral, the Duomo, a Gothic masterpiece and a show of Italian artists work. You must visit its most famous art galleries, the Uffizi and the Palazzo Pitti. Outside the Uffizi is a copy of Michelangelo’s most famous statue, David. The genuine article is housed inside another art gallery, the Accademia.
If you are a fan of Michelangelo, then you should also pay a visit to the Medici Chapel and the Laurentian Library, both are great examples of his work.
As you wander around Florence you’ll see many examples of sculptures and majestic churches and who could visit Tuscany without seeing the wine regions and sampling the taste in its country of origin.
You can also take a picnic in the Boboli Gardens, a work of art in itself, and be sure to stroll along the banks of the river Arno and admire the skyline made of domes and towers. You don’t need to spend a fortune on your travels either as there many opportunities for camping in Italy when you are in Tuscany.
