France Is The World Tourism Leader

Well I never!  I can barely believe it but according to new figures, France continued to be the leader in world tourism in 2007 with over 82 million visitors, as increase of 4 per cent compared to 2006.

Its closest rival was Spain, which I can understand, I’d have put Spain up there.  Having said that, of the 82 million visitors, 14 million were just passing through.

46 per cent of their visitors were from Europe - Britain, Germany and Belgium were the most important sources, although I don’t think you should count us if we’re passing through.  I mean, we’re an island for goodness’ sake, we can’t go anywhere without going through France!

Italy, Switzerland, Spain and Portugal visitors grew in numbers as did the Americans, although with the weak dollar their numbers dropped in the last quarter.  The Americans spend the longest time there - eight nights on average, whereas the Japanese had five nights on average and Europeans just under six nights.

What I want to know is, once they’ve been, do they go back?  Is the Eiffel Tower really such an attraction?

There are some great Management Training Courses
