Guinness Brewery Moving
As regular readers of this site will know, I’m a huge fan of Dublin and as such, naturally I’ve been to the Guinness Brewery at St James Gate in Dublin. Guinness has been talking about moving its brewing operation for some time and has decided it is going back to its roots and moving its main brewing operation to a small town called Leixlip just outside Dublin, which is where Arthur Guinness first started brewing back in 1755.
The sad part is that this means their other two operations at Kilkenny and Dundalk will be closing and half of the 430 staff currently employed across Ireland will lose their jobs. The good news is that the brewery won’t open til 2013.
The new site will be 73 acres and it will be the largest brewery in the Irish Republic, usurping St James Brewery from its current position.
I assume the Guinness factory tour will continue, I certainly hope so as it’s an integral part of any city break to Dublin.
