High praise for Benidorm
Benidorm, the popular tourist Spanish resort has just received very high praise indeed from a particular leading Professor of Geography who thinks that Benidorm should receive the same recognition as the Taj Mahal and Stonehenge.
A resident professor at the French University of Angers, Professor Philipe Duhamel, said:
“Benidorm is the Dubai of Europe. It is unique in Europe, is known worldwide and is a remarkable site for what is understood by mass tourism. For many years everybody spoke badly of Benidorm, but with time it has gained value, as has happened in other examples of architectural world heritage.”
During the twelfth Benidorm Tourism Forum, Professor Duhamel spoke out to a large number of the industry professionals whilst the mayor of Benidorm, Manuel Perez Fenoll. The Mayor stated
“After many years of misunderstanding, there are now experts who recognise the Benidorm model”.
Family holidays and city breaks to Alicante have been popular through the years and even in the current climate show no signs of declining in popularity. There are around 1.5 million British holiday makers take holidays or city breaks to Benidorm each year.
Professor Duhamel went on to praise the resort for its “unique collection of skyscrapers”, claiming that buildings such as the Gran Bali Hotel and the Torre Intempo were of particular cultural importance.
