A survey done on behalf of More Than insurance found that many people feel they have to be contactable by work even when on holiday and around a third had had their holiday ruined by interruptions from work.
This trend seems to have been exacerbated in recent years because of the growing popularity of Blackberries, mobiles phones, laptops and other modern technology communication devices.
In fact, in another survey this year for 3 UK a third of respondents felt they should be contactable via mobile by work when on holiday in case of a work emergency. I think this is awful, surely the sign of a good office worker is to ensure that the company can cope without you? You should have procedures, etc in place. It’s ok if you own the company, but it is important that we relax on our holidays so we get time to recuperate and return to work feeling refreshed.
