Melbourne welcomes Cate Blanchett’s first play

This year will see the famous Hollywood actress Cate Blanchett directing her first play ever which is due to open in March in Melbourne, Australia.

The city’s new MTC Theatre will be premiering the film called ‘Year of Magical Thinking’ which starts on 4th March running to 11th April 2009.

Cate Blanchett is also is in the process of enjoying much critical acclaim that her role in the film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button has been brining her in recent months. Blanchett was born in Melbourne, which is based in the state capital of Victoria within South East Australia, therefore the area means a lot to her.

She is directing a play that was written by Joan Didion, the renowned American novelist who has already been the subject of play featuring at London’s National Theatre in which Vanessa Redgrave starred.

The story tells the tale of a woman who is forced to cope with the loss of her partner of 40 years and battling to deal with the same illness suffered by their only child in her husband’s absence.

Those people who are planning a visit to Melbourne soon should also head for the city’s International Comedy Festival, between 1 and 26 April.
