New Channel Tunnel opening increases Eurostar services
A new channel tunnel opening which is a 17 kilometre section at the northern end of the tunnel just below the Channel Tunnel
The company who operates and owns the Channel Tunnel are called Eurotunnel and their announcement of the development was said to increase the number of trains, the company that operates the Channel Tunnel, announced that the development will increase the number of trains running through the tunnel to up to an amazing 170 per day.
This 50% jump in service frequency is going to allow a total of 90 daily truck shuttles, 29 passenger shuttles and number of regular freight train deliveries and 44 Eurostar crossings.
A second stretch of channel tunnel is also being worked upon which would add a second 17 kilometre stretch of tunnel that would increase transport capacity.
Two days following the fire on 13th September, the Channel Tunnel services were completely disrupted with priority at that time being given to passengers who had made early reservations.
Eurostar runs its services from its London St Pancras base along with its stations at Ashford in Kent and Ebbsfleet with daily trips that operate to European destinations from Lille to Bruges and Paris.
