The international airport at Belfast has recently announced that it is to launch a new flight management system which is expected to provide a substantial benefit for passengers at the Irish hub.

ICS Computing technology is the new system which will reportedly begin to achieve ‘major time and cost savings’ putting Belfast International airport ‘ahead of its competitors in terms of operating efficiencies’.

There are more than 5 million passengers who are due to pass through Belfast airport during 2009, meaning that the provision of the new flight management system will be used in providing information on the public display boards and on websites.

Denis Brown, Belfast International’s technical services manager, said the flight management system is ‘at the very heart’ of the airport’s business. He added: ‘It’s an essential communication tool which allows all airport staff - air traffic control, apron control, airport police and customs - to access real time information on each flight and coordinate a timely response. So far we are absolutely delighted with the new system and expect its improved processing speed will save us one to two days per week on administration time - which in itself is really quite remarkable.’
