New USA Travel System

The US has announced a new travel system, which you’ll have to use if you want a holiday or city break in the US from 1st August this year.

In the current system, you have to complete a written form before you go but on the new system, called ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation), everything will be collected electronically (clue’s in the title I suppose).

This will apply to all citizens part of the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) (that includes us Brits).  If your country is part of the VWP, as the UK is, you can visit the US for up to 90 days without a visa.

From 1st August you can apply using ESTA and the application will last until your passport expires or for up to two years, which is pretty good but you’ll have to make sure you keep an eye on that timescale.

I’m going to New York for a city break in January, so I guess I’ll be using the new system then, I’ll let you know how it goes!

Further Points:
HR system.
