The City of Budapest

I think I’ve mentioned before that some areas of Eastern Europe are still very cheap, and Budapest is certainly one of them.  It’s actually two cities - Buda and Pest, each on one side of the river Danube and Margaret’s Island is in between.

If it’s history you’re looking for, head to Buda first to see the old Buda Palace, the National Gallery and the History Museum and you’ll also get great views of the city from here.

If shopping is more your thing, head to Pest and look behind the old parliament building for some fabulous shopping opportunities.

Now, here’s my thing.  In between the two cities, lies Margaret’s Island, a beautiful haven.  It’s mostly traffic free, and has a plethora of swimming pools and beer gardens, and grab a taste of the national dish, goulash.  There are many more varieties of goulash than you might think!

In the evening, visit a jazz club for something different or one of a dozen bars - they’re still pretty smoky over there though.

If you’re looking for a cheap city break that has still got plenty of action, try Budapest - and let us know how it goes.
