The Monument of London
Early February 2009 will see the doors to one of our capital city’s greatest landmarks re-open.
The Monument was built in 1577 and designed by Sir Christopher Wren to commemorate the Great Fire of London.
Its tower is 61 metres high and 61 metres from the place where they believe that the Great Fire of London first broke out, in Pudding Lane. Ironically, once the work is complete on the tower it will be ableto host some fabulous fireworks displays and laser shows.
Around £4.5 million has been spent on revamping the tower and visitors will be able to climb almost to the top of the tower from where they can enjoy a beautiful view of London, ideal for those taking city breaks whether for the first time or the hundredth time, this is not to be missed.
