Venice
Venice, a city networked with 177 canals spanned by 450 bridges and full of myths and legends. It is built on mud flats making it appear to float on the water.
As the adverts show, you can take a gondola or a water bus round the canals but there’s much more to Venice than a gondola trip.
For two weeks before Lent, the city is taken over by Carnevale, their biggest festival, and it’s a great time to visit.
There are plenty of galleries to visit including the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the Accademia and you should also see the basilica of St Mark, the Lido and La Fenice Opera House.
The Doge’s Palace dominates the city wherever you go. It has been used by the government for over 700 years now.
For a romantic city break or simply to soak up the artistic surroundings, don’t miss Venice - it is one of the must-see cities of Europe.
