Visiting Prague for Opera in 2009

Those who are visiting Prague this year should be able to satiate their appetite for live musical and theatrical entertainment as Prague boost the operatic shows with more famous shows due to hit the city’s major venues during 2009.
This Czech capital city is one of the highest ranking top locations evening entertainment and operatic performances set in the atmospheric Prague State Opera.

The State Opera house was first opened to the public in 1888 and is just about due to celebrate its birthday on 5th January.  The opening production on the day of its birth in 1888 was one of Wagner’s famous opera known as ‘The Mastersingers of Nurnberg’.

In 2009 there will be a far more widespread choice of both operatic venues and famous performances which will include operas written by the world-famous grandmaster Giacomo Puccini, he is widely recognized as being one of the greatest composers in the world.

Show dates for Puccini’s Tosca include 6th and 19th February - 5th March 2009. Madame Butterfly is to be staged on 12th January – 20th February.

If you are visiting Prague and prefer ballet then the State Opera House will also be showing Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake along with Prokofiev’s Cinderella during 2009 along with other works.
