‘World Class’ Glasgow
Not one to preach, because I have not been on a city break to Glasgow yet, but I cannot help but doubt the validity of a claim by a new Lonely Planet’s book that Glasgow is a ‘world class city’. I have heard it has undergone a huge amount of regeneration, which has boosted both business and tourism in the city as well as house prices, but world class? Doesn’t that mean it should be able to compete with other great world cities such as Sydney or Hong Kong?
Lonely Planet travel editor Tom Hall said: ‘The time has come for Lonely Planet to let one of its worst kept secrets out: Glasgow’s got everything. When we put together Best in Travel 2009 we were looking for the best places to go and things to do in the world right now. We’re delighted to highlight such a fun, stylish city.’
I’m sorry to be such a cynic, but sounds like a publicity measure for the book launch to me. Still, maybe I should visit the city before making such as sweeping judgment.
